 Dear Birth Parent,

Although we have never met, we would like to thank you for taking the time to consider us potential parents for your child. Even though we cannot even begin to understand what you are feeling, we have so much respect for the courage and compassion you are showing in creating an adoption plan so you can provide the best possible future for your child. We truly admire you for loving your child so much that you are putting his/her future above all else. We have waited our whole lives to give a child the same opportunities we were fortunate enough to have while we were growing up.

Shawn and Derica met at summer church camp when we were in high school (14 years ago). Because of the strong friendship that formed years before dating, a very unique and special bond was created. We truly are best friends. We spend most of our free time together. We share the same values and goals and have a great understanding of our hopes and dreams for life, marriage and family. We respect each other and will raise our children with the same values. We have always talked about having children and had always wanted to adopt a child. Not knowing that adopting children was God’s perfect plan for our family. It wasn’t meant to be biologically. We were meant to be a forever family through adoption.

About Shawn from Derica
Shawn is a wonderful caring, strong, and confident man. He is the oldest of two children and is of Chinese descent. One thing that stands out to me is that Shawn is a family man and to him family doesn’t just include his biological family, but his friends as well.  He is a very giving and generous man. He receives true satisfaction out of giving to others. He is not a selfish man. In fact, I am not sure if there is a selfish bone in his body. His generosity and eagerness to help others whether family, friends, or strangers always seems to amaze me. He truly cares deeply about the people in his life.

Shawn is a successful manager at a financial institution. He works hard to help his employees be successful. Even at work he is not selfish, he will give them every opportunity needed to become successful.

About Derica from Shawn
Derica is the oldest of two children. She was raised in a rural part of Michigan. Most of her childhood was spent outdoors playing with her neighborhood friends or spending time at the family farm. Today, she continues to enjoy being outside either working in the yard or engaging in fun leisure activities.

Derica has a beautiful passion for helping others. She has devoted her career helping children with disabilities. Her involvement and commitment has enabled her company to expand its programming for children with brain injuries across southeast Michigan. Derica has a heart for mothering and will make every child feel loved and cherished. In her free time she also likes to work with youth at church in both spiritual education and in music. Derica has the most beautiful voice and I am blessed when she sings to me. I admire her acceptance of people and her desrire to show them God’s love.

A little more about us
Like most people, we enjoy spending time together. We enjoy going to the theater, movies, rollerblading, playing cards with friends, and going out for dinner. We love spending time at our family cottage on the lake having fun on the water boating, fishing, skiing, swimming, or sitting by the campfire.

We want to thank you for considering us potential parents and blessing us with a wonderful child who will enrich our lives every day and presents us the opportunity to be better people than we could be alone. Together, we desire to raise a child in a loving Christian home encouraging, honesty, integrity, and respect. We would be honored if you would entrust us to love and raise your child as our own. He or she will know from the beginning how they became a member of our family and that this is truly a story of love and courage. We want you to know that we will love your child just as if he/she was our own. We have so much love to give your child. You will have given us the greatest gift we could ever receive and we will be forever grateful.
